We are used to thinking that we have the best health care in the world. That we will always be taken care of. But how long can we count on it?
Although we are the country with the highest proportion of employed people in the health and care industry in Europe, we are already short of people. By 2040, it is estimated that the deficit could be as high as 120,000 years. We are on average getting older, have a lower birth rate and have an increasing number who fall out of work. It gives a calculus that doesn't add up.
There are not enough resources to meet the need we face in health and care. Then we have to do what we can to reduce the need. Over 85% of the disease burden in Norway is due to non-communicable diseases. The EU estimates that preventive measures can reduce the incidence of such disease by 70%. In other words, the potential of preventive health is enormous, both for the individual and for society.
To unleash this potential, it requires us to change how we take care of our own health. We need to take action earlier and do more ourselves. Do not wait until the body cries loudly. Go from a reactive mindset to a contraceptive one.
Livity is supposed to enable this change, for everyone. It will not only make the individual have a better and longer life. By preventing unnecessary age- and lifestyle-related diseases, we can relieve the health service and free up resources for those who really need it.
The road from small everyday complaints to serious health challenges is shorter than many people think. Most of these can be avoided.
